Server logs: track edits, deletes, joins and role changes

Set up Hana's logging to record message edits and deletions, member joins and leaves, voice activity, and role and channel changes.

Updated

Logs answer "what happened here?" after the fact: who deleted that message, when a role changed, who joined right before the spam started.

Setup

  1. Create a private channel such as #server-log that only staff can see.
  2. Run /logging setup and pick that channel.
  3. Run /logging config to choose which events to record.

What's worth logging

  • Message edits and deletes: the most useful log for disputes.
  • Joins and leaves: spot raids and returning troublemakers.
  • Voice activity: who moved or disconnected whom.
  • Role and channel changes: essential after a compromised-admin incident.

Moderation actions (warns, bans, timeouts) go to the separate channel you set with /mod log-channel.

Note: Keep log channels private. Deleted messages can contain things the author removed on purpose.
